A note on airports.
I recommend checking on line for the airport you are going to fly thru and get acquainted with the food choices and amenities to make layovers smoother. Planned long layover or not, you may find yourself there for hours. Most airports these days have a family changing room and play area. Often times only in one terminal and usually where the “HUB” airline goes out of.
Apparently busiest airport in the U.S. And I believe it…
Tons of shopping. Decent restaurants.
Plan extra extra time for this airport as it is huge and you will have to take their train system to/from your gate. Also getting to ground transportation and getting out of the airport takes forever so be sure you have fed and changed the baby before getting off the plane or right after landing.
The domestic terminal we flew into wasn’t very nice but we spent most of our time in the international terminal. It is very pretty and new. Tons of artwork and there is even a liberty bell made out of leggos that small children will enjoy. If you need to rock the baby or nurse there are tons of rocking chairs througout the airport. You will find a lot of stores for shopping. The Star Alliance/Envoy First Class lounge is top notch. We splurged and flew First Class on this leg and it was worth it as we had a 6 hour layover.
We arrived quite late into the airport and our bags were the last to arrive. Overall pretty easy to navigate and they have baby changing rooms apart from restrooms which are nice. VERY child friendly airport and country for that matter. We got waived from the very long cab line into a cab because we had a baby. Also was allowed to bring liquids thru security, the guard said, “just say it’s for the baby.” We had a long layover so we spent the night at the Holiday Inn Attica Road (new hotel and very nice). Quick and on-time departure the next morning. We will be flying back thru Athens on our way to Munich.
Rhodes, Greece
Small airport and easy to navigate. Plenty of cabs waiting and you can arrange for a rental car company to meet you to pick you up. We used M&S Rental out of Charaki. Paul and Mary are fantastic people. They will pick you up and drop you off at the airport free of charge. Free car seat usage.
Wait time for baggage is a bit long considering how small the airport is.
